Development of an artificial placenta to be used as a mini lung assist device to treat newborns with sevre respiratory insufficiency. The concept uses a microfluidic approach with a small priming Volume, surfacel coating with ATH (Antithrombin-Heparin-complex) and is connected via the natural umbilical vessels. First animal experiments are encouraging.
